Kid ~

It's been almost a year since half of Death city was destroyed after the kishin Asura's rampage...
and since my father decided to use the entire city as a giant battle robot to join the fight with Arachnae.
Ever since Asura was defeated, everyone's been lending a helping hand to get the city back to its former glory, and today happens to be the day of the grand reopening of the DWMA, so my father is holding a sort of 'welcome back/orientation' for the students (returning and new) as well as the staff.
As his son, i'm required to stand out the front with him and Spirit as he vaguely describes how pleased he is that the city is finally back to normal and that the acadamy has reopened, although if past events prove me right, i'll probably end up being the one who's giving the speech in the end.

Thinking back to the past always just seems to make me depressed. The mistakes i made, the things i could have done better...

I sighed deeply, running a hand over my tired face in a failed attempt to wake myself up.

I feel like i haven't slept in years, even thought it's only been a week or so. Unfortunately i'm one of those people who can't sleep if they have something on their mind. No matter how hard i try. No matter what methods i use to forget. Nothing works.

I stood up, slumping my shoulders as i briskly made my way downstairs. I was met with the 'pit pat' sound of feet, quickly finding their way across the hardwood floor upstairs. I glanced behind me to see none other than the more... let's say 'excitable' half of my weapon pair, speeding down the stairs behind me. It wasn't long before i felt a sudden load on my back, almost sending me falling to the floor, but i managed to keep my balance.

"SCHOOL TODAY KID!! WOOO!" Patty yelped in my ear, wrapping her legs around my waist and her arms around my neck, forcing me into giving her a piggy-back ride. I simply sighed again before replying "Really? i couldn't have guessed..." i said sarcastically, not that Patty picked up on it, instead she just started laughing, throwing her head back, choking me in the process.

I groaned and soon after, heard a muffled giggle coming from the kitchen doorway. I stood up straight, still holding Patty, to see Liz smiling at the two of us like the amused older sister she is.

"Mornin' kiddies!" Liz said happily and i huffed, earning a look from Liz. "Well someone woke up on the wrong side of his coffin this morning!" Liz joked, causing Patty to look at Liz curiously, not understanding the joke she had made.

"But wh-" Patty began

"I'll explain later" Liz cut in quickly. Patty just smiled, nodding in agreement before sliding off me and running passed Liz, into the kitchen.

Liz giggled at her sister before turning a concerned look my way.

"Kid, c'mon you know i was joking. Seriously, what's wrong? You've been taking my insults to heart alot lately and i'm worried that you think i'm actually serious about them." She said crossing her arms across her chest, staring me down, hoping for an answer.

I just sighed again, shaking my head. It's selfish of me to make my friends worry. What's in the past is long gone and it's time to stop feeling sorry for myself and get on with my life! Especially since i've got a long one...

There i go again. Why does my brain purposely think of things to stress me out?

I put on a simple smile, looking up at Liz. "No, i'm sorry. I'm just over thinking things again." i said with a shrug. "Well anyway, you two get ready. We have to be there before everyone else remember?" I reminded her and she nodded, whipping her head around to glance at Patty.

"Oh right! Crap, i have loads still to do! I have to do my hair and my nails, then pick a good outfit for today... Kid, what do you wear to a reopening ceremony?" Liz asked anxiously and i pondered the question for a moment.

Well today isn't a party or a real school day. Basically the only thing that's happening today is welcoming new students and staff, informing everyone about the slight changes to the academy and just easing everyone back into the school routine.

"I suppose nothing formal, but nothing too casual either..." i said with a shrug and Liz twisted her lips.

"Got it... so my leggings and my white sweater is okay?" She asked hopefully and i nodded with a smile and she returned the nod, speeding passed me and up to her room.

Soon after, i had convinced Patty to start getting ready and did the same myself. I have no interest for color with the mood im in, so i'm sticking with my usual black pants and shoes with a black blazer and a simple black shirt. I shrugged at my reflection and turned on my heel to head out the door, to the academy.

---

Well here i am, standing awkwardly out the front of a room filled with students as they slowly leak in. Some noticeably more excited than others.
If i'm honest, its not actually that bad. I'm used to the attention, that doesn't mean i enjoy it, but im used to it for sure.

I glanced ahead and to my right to see my father speaking to Spirit. It appeared to be another one of their random conversations about something rather inappropriate for the time and place, but something like the people who hear them has never bothered them before, so why should it now?

Believe it or not, i'm actually quite fond of Spirit. I've known him since i was a child since i practically grew up in the academy alongside him and my father. Although he may be a creepy, perverted man, he's got a caring, loyal side to him that i really appreciate, since he's my fathers weapon after all.

I looked to the next wave of students filing themselves into seats in the audience. I noticed a pair of arms waving around wildly. I looked closer to see the head of pink hair it belonged to. Kim Diehl, alongside her weapon partner Jacqueline O Lantern Dupre.

Before the whole thing with Asura, i dont think i'd ever spoken to either of them directly before. I'd noticed her staring at me occasionally when i first started attending DWMA but it was nothing new at the time so i ignored it. Then i'd see her giggling when i walked passed, or waving at me from across the classroom and blushing when i made eye contact with her. It's all quite confusing, i don't understand why some girls act this way around me. But over the break, she'd been bumping into me rather frequently and she would talk endlessly about anything. I sort of just dealt with it. She's too nice a girl to be rude to, she hasn't done anything wrong exactly... except i get the feeling Ox isn't very happy with her attention being directed at me.

I took my left hand out of my pocket to return the wave politely and she and Jaqueline giggled before finding their seat.

I was about to ease back into the uncomfortable stance i was holding on the stage when a familiar, loud, very loud, voice filled my ears. I not sure exactly if i missed that voice or want to bang my head against a wall repeatedly for realizing that the voice belongs to none other than-

"THE AMAZING BLACK*STAR! HERE FOR ANOTHER YEAR! PREPARE YOURSELVES NEW KIDS, YOU MAY NOT BE READY TO STAND IN THE PRESENCE OF SUCH A BIG MAN!"

Oh joy!

The familiar sound of disapproving grumbles followed Black*star's ego rant, as usual, and before he could get going again, the assassin was silenced by the spiky haired weapon putting him into a headlock. Even over the casual conversations in the hall, i could still hear them arguing.

"Idiot! this is a ceremony to reopen the academy, not welcome you back!" Soul growled, keeping a firm hold on the struggling boy in his grasp. I smiled slightly at the sight. Soul and I have never really been on the same page, but we tolerate each other enough to get along fine.

Beside them, i saw Liz and Patty, watching the scene before them with amused faces. Standing to the side quietly as always was Tsubaki, insisting that Black*star calm down, and to the other side, glaring at the two of them with her book in hand.

"Maka... CHOP"

Two smack sounds echoed across the hall and in a second, Soul and Black*star were lying on the floor.

"WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT FOR?" Soul yelled, holding his head, obviously in pain. Maka folded her arms and huffed. "You two are making a scene... again. Can't you two just be civil for once?" she argued and Soul snapped back "You didn't have to hit me!!"

I groaned at the scene and scratched my head awkwardly, watching my teammates quarrel until my father went forward and attracted everyones attention.

Spirit returned to his place beside me, giving me a small smile before looking out into the crowd.

The hall was silent, ready for Lord Death to speak.

"Hey, Hey, HEY! Everybody! WASSUPP!? HOWS IT GOIN'?" my dad cheered in his usual tone. "I hope you all had a good break! but now we're back..."

...

...

"...Well, have a good year everyone!" My father concluded, and i could feel the face palming in the room.

Spirit lightly elbowed my side and i just sighed, yet again. "I know, i know..." i said to him before stepping forward beside my father.

"Hey dad" i said simply and he beamed at me "Oh heeyy Kid! i didn't see ya' there!" he said brightly. I smiled and for a few moments i stood there, looking up at my father curiously.

"Uh, Dad? Why are you staring at me?" i asked quietly, to which he replied by staring for a few more moments before eventually...

"Sorry Kiddo! I just don't think i'll ever get over how cute those stripes on your head are!" he beamed again and i twisted my lips.

"Really dad? right now?" i groaned and he held his giant white glove-like hands up in defense. "Ok, ok, i'm sorry, go on, make your little speech" he said gesturing to the audience of staff and students. I nodded appreciatively before beginning.

I cleared my throat, taking my hands from my pockets so i could make small gestures with the speech.

"Welcome back, students of Death Weapon Meister Academy! First of all i'd like to start off by thanking each and every one of you who assisted in repairing the city after the events of last year. Your help was greatly needed and appreciated."

"Secondly, i'd like to not only welcome back the returning students and welcome the new ones to the DWMA, but also to the new staff member Mifune, who will be teaching in the Starlight homeroom as of today" I gestured for Mifune to stand, and an applaud followed. I noticed Black*star and Tsubaki looking especially pleased, Black*star even using his fingers to send a loud squealing whistle through the hall.

I smiled, even thought it was only on the outside and continued "As you're all aware, the events of last year have left a scar on this city. What the community of this academy achieved together was a great success, however i feel there's no need to warn you that although defeating one kishin was incredible, with every new day, a simple weapon strays to the path of evil, by devouring a human soul..." I said bluntly, feeling the eyes around the room on me.

"...As students of this academy, it's our duty to hunt down these kishin eggs, and put an end to their tainted lives, before they can grow to the power of those like Asura..."

I could practically feel the sweat dripping off the foreheads of the new weapons and meisters... maybe i'm being a little too forward for their first day?

...

Nah, it's better they know now.

"...But to celebrate a brand new year, that will no doubt be filled with new surprises, i hereby, officially re-open Death Weapon Meisters Academy."

My conclusion was met with an applaud and i simply nodded before turning back to my father who spoke up again.

"That's right, you heard the boy! SO go on! Returning students, you know where to go, new kids, stay here and i'll inform you of what's happening next" he added brightly and the students did as they were told.

I walked to the edge of the stage to be met with Liz and Patty. Liz was smiling like she was half proud, half amused and Patty was staring at her shoes and talking to herself.... or her shoes... i never know.

"Well, well, well!" Liz began "Look who pulled a pretty little speech right out of his ass" she said with a smile and i just returned it. I'm actually quite happy with how that turned out! and i didn't get interrupted so that meant i didn't have to kill anyone...

I was about to reply when my fathers voice rang out again

"Oh wait... uhhh Hold on! Kid, c'mere! Also... MAKA ALBURN! I have a job for the two of you!"

I turned to my father curiously before glancing out into the crowd to see Maka, confused at first, but got over it quickly to follow the instructions she was given.

First day and dad's already giving me a job...
WEELL HEEERE WEE GOOO!!!
An actual chapter!
i'll probably be drawing stuff to go along with the story so, yay!

AND YES.

BEFORE YOU ASK.

Kid is COMPLETELY oblivious to the fact that girls at the academy fangirl over him when he walks passed.

and if you're wondering about the Kim thing, i got the idea from a line Kim had in the anime when Ox was trying to impress her when they were fighting at the magnetic field "I'd be more impressed if you were handsome and rich"

Guess who's both of those?

But anyway...

That's all i really have to say right now...
